New therapy at LZW:
Cornea Cross Linking for keratoconus (corneal disorder)

Cornea Cross Linking (CCL) is a new procedure for treating early stages of keratoconus by means of photochemical cross-linking of the collagen fibrils on the surface of the cornea with ultraviolet light and vitamin B2. To start with, the epithelium (corneal cell layer on the surface) is removed mechanically under local anaesthesia and then vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is dripped onto the cornea in order to effect subsequent cross-linking of the cornea through 30 minutes of local ultraviolet radiation exposure.
This procedure has made it possible for the first time to stop keratoconus, which would otherwise continuously advance in the course of life. Interested?

Lasik for NASA astronauts and air force pilots

NASA approves eye lasers with wavefront lasik for astronauts
On 21st September 2007 the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) approved the combination of Femto-LASIK with wavefront supported excimer laser to treat impaired vision in their astronauts.
Airforce pilots have been undergoing wavefront supported Femto-Lasik since the start of 2007. After extensive tests, under extreme conditions, the US Military approved wavefront supported Femto-Lasik for its elite soldiers. Prof. Schallhorn said at the ASCRS in San Diego in May 2007 that due to Femto-Lasik the Airforce gained access to people who formerly wore glasses. On average these people were more intelligent than normally sighted aspirant pilots.
