A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye, which develops in advanced age. If you look closely, you can see a light-grey colouring behind the pupil, hence the German name “Grauer Star”.
A cataract is usually the result of the natural aging process and associated metabolic changes. But genetic predisposition, UV radiation, or diabetes may also play a role.
Typical for cataracts is the continuous decline in visual acuity and increased sensitivity to light or glare.
Cataract can be treated by surgery, usually without any problems: The natural clouded lens is replaced by an artificial lens implant (intraocular lens) and visual acuity is restored.
This procedure is one of the most frequently performed eye operations. At the LZW we have an excellent success rate and a very low rate of complications.
The LZW only uses advanced technology and premium lenses. Our patients already have excellent vision after only a few days.
The operation is performed as outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia, and is absolutely painless. We also only operate on one eye per appointment. The pleasant atmosphere at our clinic helps you relax throughout the entire procedure.
Important: You should regularly attend screening appointments; timely diagnosis is always helpful. At the LZW we also offer screening appointments.
