How much does laser eye surgery cost?

Depending on the procedure, the cost for surgery is between 1,000 euros and 2,100 euros per eye. The cost for preoperative and follow-up examinations is based on the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ). Additional costs are incurred in cases with extremely thin cornea, as this requires additional extensive examinations (aberrometry) before surgery (approx. 2,100 euros / eye).

Are the costs covered by the health insurance companies?

Unfortunately, the costs are not covered by the statutory health insurance without a medical indication.

Private health insurance companies will cover the costs of LASIK in whole or in part. It is advisable to inquire about the exact conditions with the respective health insurance company and to submit a cost estimate in any case.

Is laser treatment painful?

NO. Before the treatment, the eye is numbed with drops (local anaesthetic).

Will I feel any pain after the treatment?

In the first hours after the LASIK treatment, your eyes may feel slightly scratchy. Your eyes will initially be sensitive to light and your eyes may tear. This usually disappears after 24 hours. After PRK/LASEK treatment, you may experience some until the corneal epithelium, i.e. the top layer of the cornea, has healed. There will only be a mild feeling of scratchiness and pressure, as a contact lens will be placed on the cornea as “transparent band-aid.” Frequent administering of tear substitutes will mitigate the feeling.

How does LASIK or PRK/LASEK laser treatment take?

Thanks to the advanced, highly precise and fast-working laser technologies, treatment only takes seconds! The entire treatment time for both eyes is approx. 15 min.

What are the success rates for LASIK or PRK/LASEK?

According to worldwide statistics, 97% of patients no longer need glasses after treatment. The results vary from surgeon to surgeon. Important are the experience of the doctor and whether the Laser clinic has the latest devices. Our clinic has one of the most advanced laser technologies in the world.

Are there any late complications of laser treatments?

The Excimer laser procedure used at the LZW has been used worldwide since 1981. To date, no long-term effects have been reported. There will be some initial dryness of the eyes which will always disappear in time.

Can the treatment cause blindness?

NO. There is no risk of getting blind. Blindness is caused by changes or injuries to the retina and the optic nerve. Both are located at the back of the eye, which is not affected by the treatment. The laser beams only impact on the top layer of the cornea.

How is my vision after the treatment?

Things may be a little out of focus during the first hours after surgery, but this will improve. Most patients have a visual acuity of 80% – 100% on the first day after treatment. In the first months your vision may be fluctuate slightly, but this will gradually improve.

When may I drive again?

Most patients are able to drive after 1 to 2 days, when their visual acuity has recovered.

When can I go back to work?

Most patients return to work within 1 to 2 days. Eye drops should continue to be used as follow-up treatment, even when back at work.

When can I go back to playing sports?

You can do some light exercising and jogging after a few days, but you must wear a pair of sunglasses. You should wait approx. 4 weeks before resuming ball games and weightlifting.

Are there any risks involved with laser treatment?

All operations carry a risk. The risk for laser correction is less than 1% and thus very low. We will inform you about your personal risks.

When can I use make-up again?

You can put on make-up after 2 weeks.

When can I wash my hair?

Getting shampoo into your eyes must be avoided for the first 3-4 days, if this is ensured, you can wash your hair on day 1 after treatment.
